Anseo.net is proud to unleash its second review of Interactive Whiteboards in Ireland. Since the last review, there has been a number of new Interactive Whiteboards that have come into the market. The review is posted in PDF format and now contains two reviews: the first is based on 5 criteria, which includes software and value for money; the second is based simply on the board itself and the service you get from the company.

The next INTO directive
May 30th, 2009
Simon Many people I speak with are asking fairly valid questions: what are the INTO doing right now? Why are they being so quiet? Where is John Carr? I was at a meeting a few nights ago and, perhaps, I have a possible answer. Since the latest set of paycuts by our present shambles of a government, the INTO have been spending their time thinking of ways to send a message to Brian Cowen and co. to show that teachers aren’t happy.
Review: Promethean ActivInspire
May 29th, 2009
Simon Promethean released their ActivInspire edition of their Interactive Whiteboard software. As I’ve said before, this piece of software can be bought for any interactive whiteboard and not just the Promethean board. At the minute it costs £99 sterling for the full version but existing ActivPrimary users can download it for free.
Review: Imagebank
May 27th, 2009
Simon Imagebank is an offshoot of the government agency, the N.C.T.E., National Centre for Technology in Education. The idea is that teachers and pupils can search for images that can be used for free for educational purposes. It’s been around for about a year. The reason I’m reviewing it now is because they’ve undergone a makeover.
May 29th- what happened on this day?
May 25th, 2009
rozz I am fascinated by the amount of “International” and “Special” days there are in the world or even in one day! Let me share with you an important day coming up that you might be able to discuss with your class or even work on a lesson or two!
On May 29th, there is an “International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers” The U.N. was organised at the close of World War II in the hope of preventing another World War.
UN peacekeeping has been developed to help countries torn by conflict create conditions for lasting peace since the first mission was established in May 1948. There have been a total of 63 UN peacekeeping operations. Currently, more than 100,000 military and civilian personnel serve in 20 UN peace operations worldwide.
Some ideas for this could be to
1. Organise a National Class or school “Peace Day”.
2. Look at your class, which countries do your class represent? Draw flags of that country and write a simple greeting in that language on it!
3. Locate some other flags and information of other flags from different countries.
4. Look at the flag of the U.N. It shows how the earth might look from the North Pole. You can see every continent except Antartica. The leaves around the map are olive branches, ancient symbols of peace.
5. Have an International Food Day, everyone is to bring something typical of their homeland or their ancestors’ homeland.
6. Have a big class debate- What would happen if ( in 100 years time) if there was only one nation-and it was called THE WORLD- List 3 good things and 3 bad things.
Some ideas to get you going, you could get mileage out of this theme if you wanted! So, just in case you need a filler or an emergency lesson plan- think PEACE!

rozz Sunday Business Post: moving shapes around a screen
May 24th, 2009
Simon Because I always have a lot to say about IWBs, this is a separate article to the main Sunday Business Post article I wrote a couple of hours ago. If you haven’t seeen the other post, basically the newspaper did a seven page sepcial on technology in education. There were 3 articles about Interactive Whiteboards, none of which featured any feedback from schools that are using them. The marketing development manager of Steljes, Greg Tierney, was featured in the main article. Steljes are the people behind selling Smartboards (and they also sponsor an advertisement on Anseo.net). Some guy from GoInteractive and another somebody from 3M (huh?) were also featured in smaller articles.

Thoughts on the Sunday Business Post
May 24th, 2009
Simon Today the Sunday Business Post published a 7 page special on technologies in education. It focussed on many aspects of ICT in all three levels of education. Amongst articles of interest to me as a primary school teacher were the NCTE’s plans to roll out laptops and projectors to us all, Interactive Whiteboards, Scoilnet’s services, Fís and a profile on constructionist learning in Gaelscoil Ó Doghair. I was not altogether happy with every article and below are my thoughts about each one.
