BrainPop: Back to School
It’s that time of the year again and Tim and Moby have got some tips for students going back to school on BrainPop.
The video is a good one to play to an older class, perhaps from 5th class upwards. Most of the content is relevant to Ireland, e.g. riding a bike to school, taking the bus, etc. They also give some good advice to be nice to the teacher, which is VERY important!
The ancillary material contains information about Jamie Oliver and school dinners, which might not be too relevant to our pupils although they would probably be familiar with the series, Jamie’s School Dinners. There are also some statistics about schools in the UK. It might be a good stimulus for finding out the equivalent in Ireland.
There’s some nice quotes about school including the famous one attributed to Yeats about education lighting a fire not filling a pail. You’ve got the usual worksheets and activities, which are pitched at the right level for the same age group mentioned above.
Back to school with BrainPop is just one of hundreds of mini-lessons available on the site. It is certainly worth considering to support your classes this year.

Brainpop is something that every teachers should check out. I particularly liked the video wherein in students are given tips to be nicer to their Teachers. We have to admit a Teacher’s role is not easy, most of the time you go beyond your job description.
