Review: Book Creator (iPad)

I am busy working on some lesson plans under the theme of the new Bear and Hare advertisements for John Lewis. An e-book is going to be released about the bear who never saw Christmas but at time of writing review, there was nothing to be seen! So, I went about making my own eBook based on the story of the bear and the hare. I downloaded a free app called Book Creator from the iTunes store. I have a new iPad mini so I wanted to try it out with my students. It is super easy to use.

You can create narrated multimedia books in minutes. The version I downloaded was free but you only get to design one book and then you need to purchase the full version for €4.99, if you like what you see. You have the options of making your own book and adding images, text, videos, and audio recordings. Each page in your book can include pictures and videos from your own saved pictures and or from your iTunes library. Book-Creator-SCreenshot

You can also add any amount of text that can fit on each page and edit size, font and colour among other features. On the full version, record your own voice to narrate each page of your book, which is a nifty feature. Or you might play around with the colour schemes for each page or cover.. What I really liked was you can save to Dropbox or iBooks or you can print or export to pdf and then email, if you wish. There is also an option to share your book on Facebook and Twitter. You can then open the exported file up and print for single use in your class or on your projector for whole class reading.

I am finally a published author though I hope John Lewis don’t mind me altering their wonderful story of love and friendship. I’m going to add all of the resources I’ve made for Bear and Hare story when they are finished. Click here to download.
