Mindfulness Matters: Still Space for Kids

Still Space for Kids CD

This CD helps create peace in the mind of young children and people. Still Space is especially useful for parenting and teaching. It gives simple techniques for embracing peace and building resilience. Through visualisation and breathing exercise, the CD helps the children become aware of body, thoughts and emotions.

This CD is recommended as a follow up to the Zone CD but the narrator does tell us that it can be used as a first CD. Track one sets up the rest of the tracks on the CD, a useful introduction for the teacher or parent.

I listened to all of the tracks first, as recommended as there were new vocab and Instructions that I needed to know so I can explain to my class first. Also, it is useful if you need to let parents know what you will be covering.

They can be used at anytime, before or after work, after break/lunch or after PE or a strenuous activity.

Still_Space_previewChildren can sit or stand while they meditate.  The narrators go through the correct sitting posture, in detail. There is an option for lying down meditation. Specific breathing guidelines are given as well throughout. There are 9 different meditation tracks ranging from settling in activities to visualisation and breathing activities. The music that accompanies all of the tracks adds to the peacefulness. The narrator guides all of the session, making it easier for the teacher to observe or take part!

If you want to find out more about mindfulness or meditation or you want to add to your own practice as a teacher, then this CD will be invaluable to you. This CD is also available in Gaeilge, Spas Siochanta Suaimhneach, another unique feature that schools may wish to integrate.
