Carrying on from last week’s science-themed Five to Follow, this week I’m explorer scientists who tweet. As I was searching my PLN, I noticed the vast majority of my scientific educators were female. With all the campaigns to get more women into the sciences, I was surprised to see this. I could have added loads more on to this list but these were the first five that came up on my search.

There are lots of primary schools using Twitter these days. However, considering their size, Educate Together schools seem to have a high proportion of their schools on Twitter. Here are some examples of Educate Together schools on Twitter.

There are many others but these are just a flavour of what’s on offer. (And, yes, my own ETNS school is on Twitter!)

It’s the Pan Celtic Festival in Ireland where thousands of people with Celtic roots flock to Carlow. Carlow has an array of Tweeting teachers including myself and Rozz. However, there’s a number of organisations that also do interesting things on Twitter. Here’s some examples:

KCLR 96FM – our local radio station
AllAboutCarlowTown – does exactly what its Twitter handle says
CarlowArtsFestival – the main summer festival in Carlow
CarlowCountyCouncil – a very clever way to keep Carlovians in touch with weather warnings, roadworks, etc.
Carlow County Museum – Yes, there’s a museum in Carlow!

The TES is the UK’s Times Education Supplement but has a huge international readership. Its resources web site is probably the world’s biggest resource sharing site. It also has a number of Twitter accounts divided into subjects and specialties.
