Guest Blogger: Yet Another Education Blogger?

As I’m not a teacher or a subject specialist – in fact I run my own business – my blog is aimed at helping the schools we work with, and it may be helpful to the visitors here. (In my blog you’ll see a fair emphasis on free digital imaging tools – I’m colour blind and for some bizarre reason really enjoy digital imaging!).

One of my first IT tasks was working in a team making Commodore PETs monitor multi-million pound production lines. (It was so much easier when the floppy disk version came out :)). I certainly couldn’t forecast what was coming – even though I then worked in Xerox before Apple ‘borrowed’ the ideas and made them more available.

Our customer base is mainly primary schools in an area of England where there is no primary ICT Curriculum support. I’ve, therefore, found it essential to try to understand the bigger picture for ICT in our customer sites, and have recently been ’emptying my head’ into my blog.

The changes going through the Irish education system look interesting, and very challenging. A post on this site related to this subject recently prompted me to look carefully at the opportunities provided by edubuntu and on-line resources. It strikes me that the focus on ‘kit’ may be an opportunity missed .. we went through various pains with similar schemes in England. But, hey, hasn’t technology moved on an extreme amount since then?

Both my parents are Irish (dad from Leitrim, mum from Donegal), so I’m really pleased to be linked to this site :).
